Night at the Museum: My story in the New Yorker...
My latest story in the New Yorker… It tells the tale of my “pen pal” — Vjeran Tomic — the world’s most famous cat burglar. He’s been locked in a prison in France for stealing $100 million in art. Where are the paintings? Why did he do this? He sent me 20 letters over 18 months telling me his story.
P.S. There’s a funny post-script to this tale. I took this commission initially because I wanted to visit my friends Pete and Naz in France and figured this would get me there. But the French prison authority never granted me access, so I resorted to writing letters. It was a throwback to the 1800s — an old-fashioned. written correspondence. But maybe it's easier to reveal things in letters.
